Manchester United will continue to splash the cash on big name signings, insists executive vice chairman Ed Woodward.

Louis van Gaal has already spent over £250million on new signings since taking the helm last summer - and that spending his unlikely to slow any time soon.

Stars such as Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial have arrived at Old Trafford this summer, following on from big name signings the previous year, including flops Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao.

But despite a couple of high profile transfer disasters , United will continue to spend the money required to keep the team at the top of the Premier League.

According to the Daily Mail, Woodward told a fans' forum event that the club were looking to continue strengthening their squad, while they will reward young talent that comes through the ranks.

James Wilson is one player who is on the cusp of a breakthrough after impressing for the youth teams.

Woodward claims that United were linked with over 100 players during the last transfer window, but only signed six new faces.

Depay and Martial were joined at Old Trafford by Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Sergio Romero and Matteo Darmian.

Woodward insists that he was "delighted" with the return of Champions League football and reportedly revealed that United's finances were looking healthier than ever.

Revenues are expected to top £500million this year - taking them close to Real Madrid's world record total.

Elsewhere in the meeting, it is claimed that United are in talks with their Russian airline partners, Aeroflot, to provide shuttle buses for supporters from subway stations to CSKA Moscow's Arena Khimki for their Champions League clash later this month.

The Manchester United Foundation also told supporters that they were happy with the work they are currently putting in, despite Manchester City's strong presence in schools in the local area.
