South African woman arrested at JKIA, with narcotic drugs of unknown value

Nairobi, Kenya: Police are holding a South African woman after being found trafficking narcotic drugs of unknown value at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi.

The drugs are believed to be cocaine. Dorothea Cecilia Elizabeth, 29 had originated Sao Paolo, Brazil and flew to Addis Ababa before connecting to Nairobi.

Police said she was to connect to South Africa when she was detained at JKIA after several kilogrammes of white powder was found on the bottom of her travelling suitcase.

Anti-Narcotics Unit detectives said they arrested her on Sunday night. They took her to court on Monday and sought a week to finish their analysis on the powder, which they believe is cocaine.

“We need more time to weigh the narcotics and know the value and that is why we sought for more time,” said outgoing CID boss Judy Jebet.

The arrest comes a week after a Dutch and Guinea nationals were also arrested at the airport with drugs.

The Dutch woman was arrested as she tried to board a flight while headed for France and later connect to Greece.

Police say the woman had a Burundian passport. She had three children aged nine, six and four at the time of her arrest on Saturday night.

The 34-year-old woman identified as Ciza Annie Butoyi had arrived at JKIA by road using a shuttle she had hired.

Police say they discovered a brown substance believed to be heroin in the bottom of her travelling suitcase.

A Guinean national was also arrested while carrying more than five kilogrammes of heroin.

Police said 35-year-old Justin Camara was on transit from an Asian country headed to his home country when he was arrested. He was too expected to be produced in court as police sought time to finish  their investigations.

Most traffickers arrested at JKIA are usually on transit.
