Kiambu Governor William Kabogo to scrap licence fee for preachers

William Kabogo

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has announced that the county will scrap the licence fee for honest preachers who hold open-air meetings or crusades.

The county chief was speaking at the weekend when he met members of the Kenya Assemblies of God Church who had convened for a week at Kamandura Secondary School in Limuru Sub-County for spiritual nourishment.

The congregants expressed concern that it had become difficult for them to preach the word of God due to the high fees imposed on them by the county administration.

“I will request the county minister for Finance to suspend the licences but they will only be issued to genuine churches,” said Mr Kabogo.

The church members said they were being charged Sh2,500 per day, a fee they noted was too high and recommended a reduction to Sh500.

The governor told the men of God to pay the county back by preaching and advising youths who had quit alcohol and substance abuse following a presidential directive to end the menace.

At the same time, Kabogo promised the people of Ndeiya ward piped drinking and irrigation water before the end of the year.

He said there were are plans to ensure enough drinking water in the area in the recent future.

"The people of Ndeiya will have clean drinking water before December. The county has elaborate plans to ensure projects take shape. I don't want residents to suffer again," Kabogo said.

County assembly member Nelson Munga said once water is available it will unlock the area's potential.

"All we need in Ndeiya is water and now that the governor has promised to ensure there will be water by December, we shall wait since our people will never again go hungry again. There will be water for irrigation for our people to farm," he said.
