Bishop Allan Kiuna: Seek out dreamers who trust and believe in you

Supportive friends

The richness of your life is directly proportional to the type and number of dream believers or dream killers around you. On your journey to greatness, you will require builders of faith and staunch supporters, not mere fans.

Dream builders are a necessity in an achiever’s life. We have to have people who will commit resources, energy and time to make our dreams come to pass. While most people will only be with you in good times, you need a few committed friends who will not shun you when doors are closed, or when you become ‘risky.’ You need these kind of friends who will be willing to tear the roof and winch you down into your miracle.

Faith is the currency

We need believers, not because we are doubters, but because double faith is better than single faith. Just like a witness in a court of law may help shape the verdict of a case, a witness in the case of our faith, a fellow believer, may determine the favourable outcome of our dreams.

And one thing that our dreams constantly feed on is our faith in these aspirations. Faith is the currency that dreamers trade with. Faith is the glucose of super achievers. Sometimes all we have is faith. In fact, the thing we must never lose is the audacity of hope. The belief that no matter what happens or however things might seem, somehow, somewhat, things will turn out for our good. The confidence of faith is contagious and so is lack of it.

Make friends with genuine people who genuinely want you to succeed and would do anything to advance your ambitions. Sometimes dreams do not need just daring people, they need the company of believers; people who will not stand back as you make mistakes, walk away as you fail, or stay silent as you struggle towards your destiny.

Unless such folks watch over you, your dreams may fade and fail. Carefully select your dream keepers, vision watchers and destiny supporters, because once in a while, the frailty or ferocity of that camp may determine the survival or death of your dreams.

When we walk in the company of believers, we’ll keep believing, but when we stand alone, we risk doubting even the most probable aspects of our dreams. Sometimes all it takes for your dreams to survive are the few friends who are not concerned with guidelines of men, to take the action to rescue you from trouble.

Take the lead

It is a blessing to have loyal people around you, people who can risk anything for you, not for anything in return, but because of their faith in you. People who will persist and insist until your dreams become a reality. In fact, life can sometime bring you to a point where you are either on auto-pilot, or somebody else close to you must take the lead as you gather your strength, redeem your focus and recuperate from exhaustion.

Our dreams must grow to the place that they become bigger than a one-man-show, and we must expect help if we really believe that our vision is greater than us. And when life brings you here, don’t be afraid to ask for help and do not stop your believers from taking steps for you and venturing into new frontiers on your behalf.

Receive believers

Develop your dream keepers. Invest in them in your friendship and in their welfare, because their welfare is your welfare. These are the people who are ready to support your crazy aspirations, believe in your wild imaginations, and will fight tooth and nail to establish your lines of thought.

Receive such believers and become a believer too. Jim Valvano, one of the most successful American college basketball players, coaches and broadcasters once said: “My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.” In his inspiring speech about his career success, he attributed it to the faith of his father.

We must surround ourselves with people who make us believe that we shall live and not die, that we shall win and not lose, that life shall turn out better and not worse. But don’t just expect risk-taking friends in your favour alone, be the crazy friend too!
