Fenerbahce winger Nani has urged former Manchester United teammate Robin van Persie to join him in Turkey.

The 28-year-old completed a £4.25m switch to Fener on Monday afternoon to bring an end to his eight-year spell at Old Trafford.

Robin van Persie, 31, whose 2014/2015 season was blighted by an ankle injury, could arrive in Istanbul as soon as Tuesday to agree terms with Fenerbahce, the Hurriyet daily reported.

However van Persie's manager Kees Vos was quoted as dousing the speculation in Dutch media, saying the player would be reporting for pre-season training with Manchester United as normal.

"I haven't had the chance to talk with Robin van Persie yet," he is quoted as saying by Goal.com. "But if he comes to Fenerbahce, I am sure that he will be very successful. I know Robin very well and it would be right decision if Fenerbahce sign him."

Turkish press reports have said that van Persie had been encouraged to join Fenerbahce by its former Dutch stars Dirk Kuyt, who left last season after becoming a firm crowd favourite, and Pierre van Hooijdonk.

In his eight years at Manchester United, Nani scored 41 times in 230 appearances.

Fenerbahce are looking to create an unbeatable line-up for the new season, after losing the Super Lig title to their eternal and bitter Istanbul rivals Galatasaray.
