I will sack lazy, incompetent officials, says Governor Kibwana

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana

Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana has warned lazy and incompetent members of his cabinet that they risk being sacked should they not deliver as per set standards.

Speaking on Monday in Wote town where he officiated the signing of performance contracts by his executive committee members, Prof. Kibwana said his administration was committed to integrity and accountability in the workforce.

"People of Makueni now want development than ever before. If any official will not satisfy us in terms of service delivery, we will dismiss them," Kibwana warned, during an event also attended by Members of County Assembly and residents.

Prof Kibwana at the same time appealed to the county government employees to stay close to their work stations in order to save on working hours.

The governor challenged public servants who operate far away from their workstations to relocate, or risk the sack as well.

"If they can't relocate close to their work stations, it means they are initiating their own dismissal and we will not hesitate to make that happen," the governor said.

Governor Kibwana seems keen on taking full advantage of improving working relationship between himself and the county assembly to compensate for lost time.

For two years, the county executive has been embroiled in a vicious tag of war with the County assembly which led to stalling of development projects in the county.

"We want to focus ahead with development and not dwell on our past," Kibwana noted.

Mr Dancun Mwilu, a trader in Wote Town expressed optimism that the performance contracts will help the county achieve a lot in development.

The head of the County Public Service Board Benjamin Mutie said the signing of performance contracts would kick start development in the county.

Mr. Mutie told the civil servants that they are bound by terms of their employment contracts which require, among others, that they dress officially and use only English and Swahili while at work.

Mr Wambua Kawive, the county executive in charge of devolution promised the installation of a radio station while Jacobus Kiilu of agriculture promised a fruit processing factory before the end of the financial year.
