Insurance firm settles flood claims in Narok

Kenya Orient Insurance Limited is settling claims by businesses in Narok affected by recent flash floods that destroyed property worth millions of shillings. The company is the first insurer to pay claims related to the floods.

Mr Walter Njogu, one of the affected businessmen, received a settlement cheque of Sh3.1 million from Kenya Orient Insurance Limited General Manager and Head of Claims Mercy Kiana at the Family Bank branch in Narok. His business was insured by the Orient Business policy offered by Kenya Orient Insurance. The claim payment covered loss of business machinery, furniture, stock and BOS that is used for his agency banking.

"When we receive such claims, we process them expeditiously and with efficiency because our aim is to get our customers back to their usual businesses within the shortest time possible," said Ms Kiana.

She added that Kenya Orient Insurance has been in the forefront of sensitising the business community on the importance of taking business insurance, which is a safety net especially in wake of the numerous business properties loses in the country through destruction by fire and floods among other natural causes.

"I am living proof that Insurance is very important for any business. I am happy to be receiving this cheque and I can now go and rebuild my business after the floods destroyed everything. Without insurance, I don't know where I would be," said Mr Njogu after receiving the cheque.

'Orient Business' policy is a micro-insurance product that covers stocks, business related tools and property against the risk of fire and lighting, burglary and all risks (where applicable) and also covers political risk and terrorism amongst others.
