North Rift Valley County governments have initiated a 'Kenya Champions Walk for Peace Initiative' in an effort to sensitise warring communities in the region to live in peace and harmony.

The Walk is slated for July 15 2015 and will see notable athletes' among them Wilson Kipsang, Paul Tergat, Ezekiel Kemboi, Stephen Kipritich John Kelai, Irene Jerotich among others take part in the noble course.

"Our main goal will be to address peace and Security issues among the warring communities following ethnic clashes that has been witnessed in the area," Turkana County Liaison office Director Vincent Palor.

Palor expressed fears over the number of young people's dreams being shattered due to continued ethnic conflicts calling for immediate action from government to curb the menace.

"We all know very well that whenever such conflicts arise Women and Children are always culprits and they end up bearing the brunt," he added

Palor expressed confidence that the 'Walk' will play a bigger role in transforming the communities and help the locals initiate a lusting solution to the problems affecting the region.

Turkana, West Pokot, Trans-Nzoia, Kamega, Uasin Gishu, Eldeyo-Marakwet, Baringo Laikipai, and Samburu are among counties the 'Walk' will happen.

The Initiative comes in the wake of continued conflicts among Samburu and West Pokot Communities over the cattle rustling practice that has left scores of locals dead and others left homeless.

Recently, the government has vowed to combat cattle raiding menace in the regions with the locals promising to expose those behind the raids.

The Walk is spearheaded by Aegis Trust in collaboration with the Regional Centre on Small Arms.
