BOBBY WAITS ON WERE: Former AmaZulu winger will be eligible against Ethiopia should he join Gor Mahia

National team Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson is excited with news that winger Paul Were is on the verge of joining Gor Mahia.
The move will make Were available for Saturday’s Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) match against Ethiopia.

This will be a positive addition to Williamson especially after the winger put in a man of the match performance against Congo Brazaville two weeks ago by scoring in a 1-1 tie in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Were, who formerly played for Durban-based AmaZulu will be eligible to play for Harambee Stars this weekend if he finally joins Gor Mahia. The Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament is exclusively reserved for local-based players.

“It will be great to have Were in the squad as we face Ethiopia. He brings in a lot to the team and his presence will give us plenty of options upfront especially as Jacob Keli has gone to Zambia,” said Williamson.

Apart from Were, Williamson said he has recalled Thika United captain Dennis Odhiambo with Musa Mohammed and Haroun Shakava returning to the team as well.
“Shakava was unwell and that is why he stayed out of the first leg match. We need him at the back in this crucial match and his presence will be a major boost,” said Williamson who has also urged fans to turn up in large numbers for the fixture.
“The fans really made a big difference for Ethiopia in the first leg match and we are urging our fans to also do us a favour and turn up in a big way to motivate the boys,” he said.

Elsewhere, Sofapaka made a profit of more than Sh10million after selling lethal midfielder Fiston Rizak to South African side Mamelodi Sundowns, we can reveal.
The player joined Sofapaka two years ago and cost the Kenyan club Sh4million. But two years later, he has been sold for a whooping Sh24million.

But Sofapaka will get to keep just sixty percent of the transfer fees paid by Sundowns which comes to Sh14.4million.

The other forty percent went to paying brokers who were involved in the deal.

Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa said he is happy with the deal and revealed that he expects to receive another Sh4.5million when Rizak plays ten matches for his new club.

“We put a clause in the contract which guarantees us another Sh4.5million once he plays ten matches for Sundowns,” he said.

Kalekwa said the money raised from selling Rizak will be used to buy new players and also settle pending arrears for the current ones.

“We intend to spend big in the current transfer window before it shuts on Tuesday because we view this as a business.”
