Former Cabinet Minister Mukhisa Kituyi's son Ivar Makari passes on

The son of former Cabinet Minister Mukhisa Kituyi has died.

Ivar Makari Kituyi, 30, passed on in his house in Nairobi after suffering suspected diabetic attack, his friends said.

The family and friends said Makari, who recently married spent his evening with friends in the city before retiring to his home at Roselyn Gardens where he suddenly died on Saturday night.

His wife was not present at the time of the death. Makari's wife had gone to attend a party at a school where she teaches in Kitisuru area and when she arrived home late, she found him dead on the bed, a family friend said.

Makari's body is lying at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi where his friends and those of the former influential minister were converging after getting the shocking news.

He was the eldest son of Dr Kituyi who is also the Secretary-General of the senior United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Police said a post mortem exercise will be conducted on the body to establish the exact cause of the death.

Deputy President William Ruto condoled with the family.

"My very sincere sympathies and condolences to our brother Dr Mukhisa kituyi for the loss of their child. May God comfort you. Poleni sana," said Ruto in a tweet.

Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa who is Dr Kituyi's cousin, called The Standard to convey his condolences.

"Dr Kituyi and his family, we all bear the loss of a child we so loved. May God give you strength, peace and comfort through this unimaginable pain. My deepest condolences to you and your family," eulogised the minister.

CORD leader Raila Odinga also condoled with the family following the incident.

"My condolences to comrade Mukhisa Kituyi for the loss of your dear son Makari," he said in a tweet.

Several other people condoled Makari on the social media describing him as a humble, hardworking and loving man.

Wamalwa said he had spoken to Dr Kituyi who was on his way to Nairobi from Geneva, in Switzerland.

The deceased worked in Norway at the NRK before moving back home to Kenya to set up a production company, Black Viking Productions.

Makari is said to have been keenly interested in the crime and thriller genre as well as motivational drama.

He was also writing for both TV and film with emphasis on providing good quality African production and script writing.
