President Uhuru’s cabinet an embarrassment to professionalism

Governments do not just fail. If Uhuru Kenyatta’s government is anything to judge by, it is very evident any government’s failures are always caused by some design.

From the very onset, the head of state put his government on the inviting path of failure. His appointments have been the major reason why this government has resorted to focusing on public relations, albeit poor ones, than serving Kenyans.

A keen analysis of his government says it all. Appointments are done based on non-professional reasons such as political loyalties and trials to entice others. But then again, Kenyans share in this blame. We let so much slide away unpunished.

For starters, his deputy, William Ruto, is not in any way qualified to administrate or manage. The scandal-filled Deputy President studied Botany and Zoology. Surely, Kenya must have qualified persons to hold his position. I bet he’s still struggling to understand his role in the government set-up.

The country keeps complaining about deficiencies in the country’s sports arena. Well, nobody should expect changes any soon. The man at the helm, Dr. Hassan Wario, holds a doctorate in Anthropology. Until we figure out how an anthropologist can manage sports, we should never question his performance.

We keep hearing lots of squabbles in the education docket. Kaimenyi has always been at the center of disputes in the Ministry of Education. It’s time all Kenyans understood him for who he is and as such, judge him based on that. The tough talking professor should in reality be a dentist. Managing a whole ministry, not to say that of education, can be very challenging for dentists.

Kaimenyi’s friend James Macharia from the Ministry of Health is no much different. Macharia should be an accountant if he were to be employed based on his qualifications. The president however saw him fit for the Health docket.

Before we heap all the blame on the head of state however, we have to consider the role of the common Kenyan in allowing all these acts of designed impunity. As usual, we all took a back seat when all these was happening thus allowing our sports ministry to be led by an anthropologist, as a dentist takes charge of the Ministry of Education.

All said though, it is very evident that the appointments were purely based on political affiliations rather than professional qualifications. What’s more, the constitution barred politicians from holding offices such as the Cabinet positions yet Charity Ngilu, the lady with nine lives served as Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development.

Until this trend changes, until we begin considering appointments based on deserved qualifications, we shall always remain as is at the moment.
