Jubilee united, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto declare after holy ceremony

Nyeri, Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto sought to present a united front by dismissing claims of rifts and reaffirming their commitment to the Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP).

The two leaders also faulted calls by former Council of Governors (CoG) chairman Isaac Ruto, current CoG chairman Peter Munya and CORD leader Raila Odinga who have demanded that more funds be allocated to counties. “We have decided to be a government of action.

We will continue to work  together in spite of the noise we hear from those not ready to work with the government," President Kenyatta said. "And to those who are asking for more money from the government, we want them to first show us what they have done with the money they already have."

The Opposition may work with CoG which has been pushing for more county funding.

In his maiden speech last week, Munya vowed to continue the battle that his predecessor had begun in the clamour for a bigger purse.

Yesterday, Ruto reiterated that leaders in the ruling coalition were united. “I want to assure Kenyans who voted for this regime that there are no supremacy battles between the President and I.

He is the head and I am his deputy...and we will be together in JAP in the next election to continue delivering what we promised Kenyans in our manifesto,“ the Deputy President said. The two leaders were speaking in Nyeri town after the unveiling of a memorial plaque in honour of Sister Irene Stefani.   Other leaders aligned to Jubilee also spoke out against what they termed as "divisive" politics by the opposition.

"There are those who are watching closely thinking JAP will fail. This should be a reminder to them that we shall forge ahead and develop the country," Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando said.

There has been discontent within Ruto's URP over the formation of JAP, which some leaders say was done without their input.

President Kenyatta, however, said the central government was ready and willing to work with county governments to develop their areas. Also present were Nyeri MP Esther Murugi and Governor Nderitu Gachagua, senators Kembi Gitura and Mutahi Kagwe, Cabinet secretaries Grace Kandie and Joseph Nkaissery.
