Argentina ready to train Kenya’s forensic experts

NAIROBI: Argentina is ready to help Kenya train officers in forensic science, Malvinas Islands Foreign Affairs Secretary Daniel Filmus has said.

"If Kenya needs the assistance, we are ready to help train its officers," said Mr Filmus.

Kenya's Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed told The Standard they will be talking to the Kenyan Embassy in Argentina on how they can work together with the Argentine government in a bid to increase the number of forensic experts in the country.

"We will make a formal follow up with our Embassy in Argentina on the same," she said.

Argentina is currently training doctors and working with forensic experts in Vietnam, Guatemala, Libya, Spain and Nigeria.

The training comprises recovery of data from relatives of deceased persons, excavation of mass graves and recovery of human remains, identification of human remains, forensic genetics and preparation of medical reports. Forensic science comes in handy especially in identification of bodies damaged due to attacks such as terrorism.

Speaking to The Standard in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Filmus said that there is need for all countries to unite in the fight against terrorism.

If the two countries agree on the training, it would be a boost for the Criminal Investigations Department's forensic lab that is currently under construction in Nairobi.
