Nerea, have your baby for you, not for Sauti Sol

Dear Nerea,

I know by now you are probably having sores in your ears because of the ‘noise’ being made by Mr. Nerea.

Sorry, I had to call him Mr. Nerea because he is not man enough to even own his own name. No wonder he is depending on your unborn baby to make one for himself.

I heard it too, I heard the reason he gave for you to keep the baby and I must say I was disappointed. So if your baby does not turn out to be one of those prominent people he mentioned...will he disown it? Will he stop taking care of it? He should have given a better reason because the one he gave is equivalent to that one sperm that decided to catwalk while others were in the race.

Let me try and understand his reasoning again, if baby turns out to be an ordinary citizen not known beyond his clan, Mr. Nerea will forever regret ever bringing him up. From the look of things, he might even drop a hit... “Najuta Nerea, uliniwekelea mimba”.

If he truly wants to bring up the baby, then he must do so unconditionally. He must stop pressuring you to give birth to an Obama or a Mandela. There can never be another Obama or Mandela, no matter how loud Mr. Nerea shouts.

In short, he is interested in what the baby will be and not who he will be. Have you even realized he says nothing about you? Absolutely nothing! Not even that he loves you, which I know he must have confessed before he decided that you will be the vessel he uses transport his ‘Obama’ from his dreams to reality. He does not even say that he will be by your side and take care of you during your pregnancy.

Ama Mungu akileta bibi haleti na sahani yake? Does he know that a woman needs her baby’s daddy close to her more than anything during pregnancy? Of course, that is if he remains the man the woman saw before she agreed to date him. Pregnancy is not like carrying a wallet in a handbag! Emotional support is greatly needed during this time. Not pressure to give birth to a prominent person

A woman cannot be struggling somewhere with swollen feet, mood swings, lack of appetite, nausea and 24 hours of vomiting, yet the baby’s daddy is seated somewhere crafting about the baby’s bright future not caring about it now. Life begins at conception, not at birth.

If he wants to take care of the baby, let him start the day he makes you pregnant. He should be there with you Nerea, even if his feelings for you are no more. He should be offering you the emotional support you need. He should be helping you carry that baby he so wishes to raise in future.

Nerea, please don’t listen to him, I might be wrong but I think he is an opportunist. Carry the baby to term Nerea, not because he said so, but because you want to. If you carry the baby because he said he will take care of it, you might live to regret the day you met him. Carry the baby to term Nerea, because it is part of you, because it is your dream, because it brings you happiness and above all, motherhood is the best feeling ever.

It is evident he does not care about you, all he wants is a baby, and not just a baby, one that will be a prominent figure in life. In fact, I think he cares about himself. Nakuonya Nerea.
