Desperate father calls radio show to find missing pregnant daughter - to discover she'd been killed in bus crash

A radio station had to tell a concerned father looking for his pregnant daughter following a horror bus crash that she was one of the victims who had died.

Emergency workers and police raced to the nightmare northern Johannesburg scene this morning after two Metrobuses crashed head on.

Two died in the Jan Smuts Drive incident - one who was five months pregnant after she was struck while sitting on the top deck of the doomed bus.

Her father, frantically trying to get in touch with her after hearing about the incident, called radio station CapeTalk in a bid to get information.

However he was left devastated after a radio station worker had to tell him the news.

Talkshow host Redi Tlhabi revealed the devastation on Twitter.

She wrote: "Man frantically phoning show looking for pregnant daughter. Turns out she was victim of metro bus crash. So much pain. Unbearable."

Of the rest of the passengers, another died and 64 were injured with some needing rescuing from the wreckage.

Police are now investigating the crash, which took place outside of Johannesburg Zoo.

An eyewitness told Talk Radio 702 radio: "It's horrifying. I can tell you that and there were screams, people crying all over.

"Some paramedics are still trying to administer help. Others are being transported out."
