Thierry Henry slams Javier Hernandez for ignoring Ronaldo and celebrating winner 'like he had won the World Cup'

Real Madrid Star Javier Hernandez Chicharito celebrating after scoring the winner against arch rivals Athletico Madrid

Javier Hernandez has been criticised by Thierry Henry for celebrating his last-gasp winner in Real Madrid's 1-0 aggregate win over cross-town rivals Atletico last night.

An edgy tie was settled by the on-loan Manchester United striker's 88th-minute winner when he stabbed home a Cristiano Ronaldo pass after the two sides had played out 178 minutes without a goal.

The Mexican has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at the Bernabeu this season and ran to celebrate on his own in front of the home fans.

But former Arsenal striker Theirry Henry was not impressed by the Mexican's antics following the goal, believing his celebration was over the top and he should have thanked Ronaldo for the assist.

"What I don’t like is that he celebrates like he has just won the World Cup," said the Frenchman on Sky Sports. "It’s a tap in. Turn around and celebrate with Ronaldo."

"To be fair to him he doesn’t really play," said the Frenchman on Sky Sports. "He was given an opportunity tonight but we still don’t know whether he will play again.

"He had a couple of chances in the game. One on his left foot and then another on his right foot."

Henry was also adamant that the striker should have credited the Portuguese star.

"I can tell you, he needs to thank Ronaldo tonight.

"I know he went on to celebrate alone and everything but he needs to thank Ronaldo, because for me he has to. It’s Ronaldo who chooses to change the course of the game.

"He (Ronaldo) should’ve passed the ball in the first-half but he didn't, but he did in the second-half because he knew he needed to finish them there and then.

"That is for me Ronaldo’s goal. There is two minutes to go, he didn’t want to take that chance because he knows Hernandez is in a better position so you have to play that ball.

"Ronaldo gave him that ball so that goal is Ronaldo’s goal. At that moment he knows he cannot shoot so he doesn’t take the risk of doing something stupid or silly.

"He saw a guy in a better position, which Hernandez was, and he gave him the ball, so that is Ronaldo’s goal.

"He knew he had to perform and he had a couple of chances to do it. Even the camera knew, the camera is on Ronaldo for a reason.’
