KISUMU: President Uhuru Kenyatta says he doesn’t wish any governor to face the difficulties he is enduring fighting corruption at the National Government.

Speaking at the official opening of the second devolution conference in Kisumu, Uhuru asked governors tackle the vice early enough before it is rooted.

“Devolution is only two years so you have a chance to start clean,” Uhuru said.

Acknowledging that although devolution had brought development closer to people, bad financial management, corruption and conflicts had hampered acceleration of the same.

The president urged governors to use alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to avoid situations that would render devolved units not fully functional like it is with Makueni County.

Uhuru also promised governors that his government is committed to supporting devolution and has increased money allotted the units over the past two years other than providing civic education to empower civil servants and increase public participation.
