Nairobi MCA plan County Secretary Lilian Ndegwa's physical ouster over EACC report

NAIROBI: The sour relationship between Nairobi County Assembly and the County Secretary Lilian Ndegwa Tuesday escalated when Members of County Assembly threatening to force her out of office.

MCAs alleged that they had been denied to use City Halls main door, adding that the secretary was doing this to fight back following corruption claims linked to her office.

The agitated MCA's spent better part of Tuesday’s sitting discussing the conduct of the embattled Secretary whom they accused of high handedness. They called on those in the County who have been mentioned in corruption cases to step aside in line with President Uhuru's directive.

Speaker after speaker called for the removal of Ndegwa, arguing that she had shown disrespect denying them to access VIP gate and denying them access to her office.

The MCA's accused Ndegwa who joined the county government in the transition period in early 2013 for creating a third centre of power other than the office of the governor and County Assembly.

Nominated MCA Leah Mumo said Ndegwa was depicting what she called last kicks of a dying horse for blocking the MCA's from accessing the main gate.

Kayole South MCA Elizabeth Manyala said for the county to prosper, Ndegwa should be relieved her duties. "She should not be holding us hostage. She should step aside and she must leave the office.

Speaker Alex Ole Magelo threatened a physical ouster if she failed to step aside from office.

"It is regrettable that MCA's have been subjected to this kind of treatment. I am shocked to be told than I have to use the ordinary gate or carry a visitors pass if I should use the VIP gate. This is totally wrong. I will be leading you tomorrow (Wednesday) in ejecting her and locking her office. We are not new to this kind of things," he said to the applause of the House.

The speaker said he was waiting to see the next step Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was going to take following corruption purge in the County.

However, he accused the MCAs for failing their own integrity taste by not upholding the rules and procedures of the house by taking sides while prosecuting matters at the assembly.
