Heed President Uhuru Kenyatta's call to resign, Jubilee MPs say

A section of Jubilee MPs have urged those named in the corruption ‘list of shame’ released by President Uhuru Kenyatta to resign.

Mary Wambui (Othaya), Mithika Linturi (Igembe South) and Priscillah Nyokabi (Nyeri) also called for disbandment of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), saying it had a poor track record with negligible convictions in anti-corruption courts.

The legislators also noted that a new strategy to fight graft must involve the appointment of a new EACC team.

In Tharaka Nithi, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and MPs Muthomi Njuki (Chuka-Igambang’mbe) and Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu), said the image of those implicated could only be cleaned through investigations.

Speaking at a rally in Igambangombe, the MPs said EACC must quickly finalise investigations and charge those implicated.

Separately, Gichugu MP Njogu Barua told Meru Governor Peter Munya and his Bomet counterpart Isaac Ruto, to stop using alleged derogatory language to attack Deputy President William Ruto, but to accord him the respect he deserves. Speaking after officially opening a Sh51 million Kiandai Multipurpose Housing Sacco, at Kianyaga market, Barua told Ruto and Munya to respect the contents of the EACC dossier and step aside as directed by the President.
