Man jailed for attacking three guests on his own wedding day

UK: A drunk bridegroom has been jailed for starting a mass brawl on his wedding night.

John Sandham, 31, attacked three teenagers at his reception just hours after walking down the aisle with his new bride, a court heard.

Drunk Sandham was enraged by something said by three lads aged 16 and 17 as he waved goodbye to guests after his wedding reception in Holywell, North Wales.

Mold Crown Court was told he attacked the boys - telling them he could “knock them out with one punch.” Sandham claimed he was acting in self-defence but was found guilty of assaulting the three strangers.

He told the court: “This was my wedding night. It is supposed to be the happiest day of my life and it was blighted by this.”

But a jury heard he head-butted one of his victims, hit another in the face with a glass and punched the third.

One of them told the jury: “We were just having a laugh. There were no issues.

“He turned around and asked what we were saying?

"We said we did not want any trouble but he said he could knock all three of us with one punch.”

Jailing Sandham, of Bagillt near Holywell, for three years, judge Philip Hughes told him: “It was drunken violence against youths who had done nothing to warrant your aggression against them.”
