Eldoret, Kenya: The manager of a Chinese restaurant that is at the centre of racism has been remanded by Milimani Court until Monday.

Esther Zao Yang, however, denied the two counts of operating Class B hotel without licence and engaging in employment without work permit.

She appeared before Resident Magistrate Miriam Mugure, who remanded her at Langata Women Prison. State Counsel Daniel Karori told court that the accused is a flight risk after she refused to surrender her passport to the investigators.

"We urge the court not to admit the accused to bail. She has failed to comply with prosecution’s request to disclose details of her stay in the country. Above all, her place of abode is not known" he said
