ODM issues 14-day notice to seven members among them Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero

Kenya: Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is among seven Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party members who have been issued with a 14-day show-cause notice following claims of gross misconduct levelled against them.

The notices were dispatched from Orange House, the party headquarters in Nairobi, yesterday by the chairman of the disciplinary committee Fred Athuok.

The others perceived as party rebels are MPs George Oner (Rangwe), James Rege (Karachuonyo), Millie Odhiambo (Mbita) and Agustino Neto (Ndhiwa), all from Homa Bay County.

Narok County Assembly nominated members Christine Masiyoi Lemein and Josephine Nashipae Karia complete the list.

Each one of them is expected to respond to the notice issued in writing and addressed to the chairman of the disciplinary committee and deliver it to Orange House within the 14 days before summons are issued.

Party rebels

The move is viewed to be the implementation of the order given by party leader Raila Odinga to the party's chairman John Mbadi to take action against ODM rebels.

The order was issued two weeks ago during the burial of Acting Homa Bay chairperson Monica Amollo who died in a grisly road accident a day to the region's senatorial by-election.

ODM is believed to be undergoing a massive restructuring with perceived party rebels being the probable casualties.

Raila said the recent Homa Bay senatorial by-election was the yardstick to determine those loyal to the party.

But some of those mentioned denied receiving any communication from the party.

Speaking to The Standard on phone, Mr Oner said he had not received any formal communication to the effect.

He said he will only act after he has received the letter.

"I will look at the notice and if the grounds raised by the party are worth responding to, I will do so. But if they are not, I will ignore it altogether," said Oner.

Meanwhile, over 17 victims of wildlife attack within Kisumu County have benefited from Sh1.5 million compensation fees as provided for by the Wildlife Act.

The beneficiaries included four families whose relatives had been killed, and 13 injuries which were caused by wildlife before January 2013.
