Kenya: Information Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i has appointed John Kipchumba Tanui as the new Chief Executive officer of Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA).

Eng Tanui takes over from Dr Catherine Adeya-Weya, whose term ended last month after heading the State corporation for two years in acting capacity.

Tanui was one of three nominees forwarded to the CS by KoTDA board of directors.

He was unveiled at a news conference Thursday morning, which was also attended by the board chairman John Ngumi.

The KoTDA is the corporation mandated to implement to development of Konza Techno City, a project to foster the growth of technology in Kenya as part of the Vision 2030.

Konza City is regarded by the government as the Vision 2030 flagship project, intended to create a competitive and prosperous nation with a high quality of life.

It’s an ICT project intended to enhance integration of ICT in the delivery of services by the government as a key development agenda.
It will be located on 5000 acres of land formerly known as Malili Ranch, some 60km from Nairobi.

The city is designed to host ICT research centres, a university as well as modern office blocks, schools, hotels, health institutions, shopping malls, residential areas and recreational facilities.

"The recruitment was highly competitive. I wish to thank the board for expediting the process. This will indeed go a long way in helping to finalise the remaining work within the set deadlines,’’ Matiang'i said.
