Gospel singer Bahati: I am not dating and I haven't dumped any pregnant 'girlfriend'

Politics

Singer Bahati

Perturbed and broken, gospel star Kevin Bahati calls the Pulse desk. His tone is low. His speech is brief.

“Why do these people want to tarnish my name? Whom have I hurt to deserve such treatment,” with a resigned tone, he sighs before his voice takes a long dip.

Apparently, the youthful singer has been in a cage, fighting faceless individuals who have been threatening him, some trying to solicit cash from him, over claims that he has been sleeping around with women, one of them a young girl said to have aborted his baby after living with him for seven months.

When the blogger called first, Bahati had just received a Sh200, 000 cheque from Safaricom for his music success.

The blogger wanted Sh100, 000 to be silenced. That was in November last year.

He called the Visanga and Machozi singer in December saying the blog had been tracking his movement and had even camped around his residence, near TRM Mall, for months following up the story.

And come last month, Bahati claims two radio stations called him saying they had wind that a girl he had been dating, one Mary, a gospel groupie within the System Rave gospel group, had moved in with Bahati as man and wife.

“I was very shocked at this malicious claim. It was beyond my wild dreams. I didn’t know whether I should laugh or cry. Instead, I told them to bring the so called Mary home to me. Probably, I would find a friend in a stranger,” Bahati told Pulse this week as he tried to break from the shell, the dark shade that has had him remain quiet and out of the public scene for quit sometime.

“Where are these women? I would have actually appreciated if one of them came and asked me to take care of my alleged child,” said Bahati.

“I am not sure if it is a clique of artistes trying to fight me since I have refused to work with gospel cliques and remained an independent artiste. But even then, my accusers are not telling me who these ‘lovers’ of mine are, neither has any girl come to me saying she has issues with me. I am not even dating anyone for heaven’s sake, neither have I been dating for years now,” Bahati defended.

One of the twists has it that some gospel artistes are out to tarnish Bahati’s name since he has distanced himself from them since he won the Groove, while another has it that the whole thing has been schemed by bloggers and individuals who want to solicit cash from him.

Some of the individuals who have joined to spread the rumours are known gospel singers while others are people who were once close to the Barua singer before their friendship dwindled.

It is, however, hard to tell who is telling the truth as none of the said Bahati lovers has come out accusing him of the said affairs.

“Someone called me this week and said there was a Winnie who had aborted seven times, pregnancies that they said I was responsible for. Really? How is that even possible? Seven abortions must be a record breaker,” he remarked adding that the fellow asked for a good amount to ‘kill’ the story.

The said Winnie, the source claimed, lives in Buruburu.

Mary, the fifth girl alleged to be in this Bahati chain is said to have aborted last month and they are no longer an item.

“I moved out to an apartment near Village Market a year ago and that means this Mary was going to another Bahati near TRM, I suspect,” countered Bahati with amusement.

“If I had a woman, the whole world would know,” he added.

Bahati has been living with a four-year old child he adopted in December from ABC Kenya Children Home.

“I don’t date and so, I cannot be involved in such activities. Whoever claims I have a baby or helped her abort should come out openly in the public,” he concluded.
