To hell with Cinderella fairy tale! Men don't hold key to women's success, happiness

Counties

Independent lady

As a young girl I loved fairy tales. Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and The Beast, Rapunzel, Princess and the Frog, Little Mermaid, Snow White and Cinderella were some of my favourites.

And yes, it was the same formula over and over like clockwork, but I could never get enough of it. There was always the helpless damsel in distress who needed to be saved and a handsome prince who always saved her.

I loved how the brave, rich and handsome prince would ride into town and save the damsel in distress from all her problems.

Whether it was a scary dragon, a witch or an evil and dastardly step mother, the prince never discriminated; he would save her from it all.

And then after they would get married, of course in a lavish ceremony, they always rode off into the sunset, where they would go on to live happily ever after.

This unfortunately together with society’s philosophies that teach women to be dependent, helpless damsels only adds fuel to the happily ever after nonsense.

And as a result, most young girls who believe in fairy tales eventually grow into women afflicted with the Cinderella Syndrome--they believe men’s sole purpose on this earth is to save them!

They become so placid, so accepting of things as they were with no awareness of their own ability to change their stars.

Such women are so certain that everything they want will simply drop into their hands like manna from heaven or like a ripe fruit from a tree if only they found the elusive “Prince Charming”.

They believe men were put on this earth to save them financially; from loneliness; to make them complete; to give them purpose; to make them feel beautiful and give them everything!

Girls, wake up from the slumber! Such women don’t want full responsibility for their own lives. They want to be saved from having ambition or having a real career.

Look here girls; Prince Charming does not walk this earth. I was at one point afflicted with Cinderella Syndrome, but in my mid- twenties it finally dawned on me after kissing many frogs and none turned into a royal.

That is why I do not like it when young women think it is okay not to have a good brain, and instead choose to concentrate on worthless stuff like nurturing a chubby backside or perky mammary glands!

Ensnare rich man

I get even more annoyed when young girls believe that the most ambitious dream they have for their future is to ensnare a rich man. I mean, girl, so why did you go to school in the first place?

Neither do I find it entertaining when our women reps waste our votes and act as if they were taken to Parliament to be flower girls. Are they really pushing the women’s agenda?

I find it offensive when women get married or find a man and decide to put all their dreams on the back burner.

I also do not find it endearing or inspiring when a woman quits her job to stay home and look after the babies and keep the house clean. Yes, I said that!

If you want to be the sacrificing or long suffering wife and mother who sacrificed everything, even herself, for her family, at least have the sense to go to school or to start a business while you are at it. Man was not put in this earth to save you!
