I am munching fries at a fast foods kiosk when a man joins me.

He introduces himself and when it sinks into me that he is European, my interest is instantly roused and once more, I seek to be proven right.

“Yes,” my new acquaintance affirms and goes on to assure me that he doesn’t hold back any reserves when he accents to the fact that the country is atypical. That it offers a haven, so heavenly that any soul craved with need to unwind wouldn’t regret assigning their holidays to as perfect den.

Kenyans ought to walk with their shoulders sticking above their heads and the statement, ‘Kenyan and proud’ in my humble opinion ought to made the street anthem.

We belong to a country that ignites global curiosity and there is no question about that.

To confirm I am not pulling anyone’s leg here, think of any issue that has ever set the globe on motion, key in  ‘Kenya’ and repose.

Search the coronation of the very queen Elizabeth of England.

The engagement of Prince William and Kate was also a hit on international media, with Kenya as the object of planet cameras.

I dare you also google Obama’s roots. The list is endless.

Elizabeth on becoming Queen of England

Prepossessing information about the queen of England that gives Kenya an international sentimental touch alluringly avails itself.

One of the peoples in the world that have a unique tie to Kenya is London whose chain of royalties have a kind of nolstagia about Kenya that dates from 1952 when a 25 years old princess of London first set foot in Kenya.

The year is a moment in history when global eyes were fixed on the insignificant Kenya.

Both her diary and that of London were penned at a similar instance when Princess Elizabeth, while standing on Kenyan very soil was declared Queen of England.

Elizabeth, who had ascended Mt Kenya with her husband Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh  actually on coming down the same mountain, and in their shelter in Kenya’s remote areas the same day was crownd Queen of England after news came to her that her ailing father, George VI had died and so she immediately succeeded him.

This hit on international media obviously did not leave Kenya sidelined in the attention.

I also learnt that the ceremonious road race that was hastily aranged for the new queen of England through Kenya’s alluring thickets marked the beginning of the famous ‘Safari rally’.

 Wiliam and Kate engagement

It is no doubt that with this phenomenal occurance, a strong bond had been sealed between the British royal family and Kenya and no one could ever oversee it getting disjointed.

As it emerged later, queen Elizabeth’s own grandson was to fortify the ties with an even more riveting affinity.

One would have paid with their dear lives to have Prince William’s luscious engagement to the charming Kate Middleton happen in their backyard. Such a celebrity event is what the contemporary media society wags their tongues for, both the journalists and readers.

To think William took advantage of one of his innumerable pop ins to one of our conservancies to snap the question to his girlfriend is just so thrilling.

Infact, as the ‘mail online’ reported, it was a Masai girl that the young royal item chose as bearer of their engagement secret-of where and when, out of the whole world.

Margret Lekartgi, a 22-year-old maid from an impoverished town in Kenya was the maid at a wooden lodge on the slopes of Mt Kenya where the two sealed their engagement.

Obama roots back

Our story with the West seems too fairy to be true but in actuality, it is on point.

Grab yourself a copy of US president Barack Obama’s ‘Dreams of My Father’ and you will be astounded that Barack Hussein Obama Sr’s job was impounded to cooking for the then Kenyan settlers. Only then will you have real reason to marvel at Obama’s epiphany of presidency in the United States.

The famous president reveals in his writing that his father and grandfather were poor people in a little village in Kenya’s western Nyanza region. This happens to be Kogelo in Siaya- Kenya.

His inauguration in 2009 was one of the most watched events by the global audience. It similarly had a massive push to internet traffic. Born Kenyans allowed emotions to freely wet their faces as the ‘New Birth to Freedom’, the statement that likened the then newly sworn in US president to Abraham Lincoln carried the huge day.

One of New York Times release that followed up the event quoted president Obama to have made an emotional remark about his roots.

‘Obama described himself in his inaugural address as a “man whose father less than sixty years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant.”’ Reported NY Times.

Our athletics

If for the least of reasons, which I doubt is the case, Kenya goes down search media in the world of sports and Athletics.

I once was watching a Western movie and a female character startled me.

She was chubby and it goes without say that her attemps to catch up with her comrade who she was chasing were having a dissapointing toll on her.

In surrender, she flew her arms in the air and shouted, “What the hell! Are you f**ing Kenyan?!”

This left me startled but proud.

Again, key in Kenyan athletics.

What my friend says about Kenya as he pensively stares at the food kiosk menu perfectly alligns itself to what missionaries in our secondary school  would so tastily say.

Our problems nothwistanding, we go down search engines.
