Nakuru man gets ten years in jail for attempting to defile minor

A Nakuru court Thursday jailed a man for ten years for attempting to defile an eight-year-old girl.

Simon Macharia was convicted of the offence against a Standard Three girl near a school in the county.

Principal Magistrate Mary Moranga said defilement cases are on the rise and offenders should be jailed.

Magistrate Moranga said that during the hearing, the minor cried as she gave the testimony as a result of the traumatising experience.

Prevalent

“Sexual abuse among children and women is a common offence gaining prevalence in Nakuru and a strong deterrent is necessary to protect them,” said Moranga in her judgment.

On June 20, 2013 near a school in Bahati, the accused dragged the minor into a nearby bush but a woman who was passing by saw them and screamed.

Mwangi tried to flee but residents arrested and took him to Bahati police station.
