Nandi Governor calls for continued media support in a bid to ensure devolution succeeds

Kenya: Nandi Governor Cleophas Lagat has called on the media to continue supporting devolution to help improve the lives of Kenyans.

"The media plays an important role in highlighting issues affecting the country. I would like you to help us achieve our goals," said Dr Lagat.

He expressed his commitment to improving the lives of Nandi residents, saying that last week he commissioned six fully equipped ambulances that will ensure residents have easy and fast access to health facilities.

"We have launched the ambulances that were supplied to all the six sub-county headquarters and they started working the same day. We also support the Beyond Zero Campaign by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and we have said that pregnant women will be given a lot of attention as the ambulances operate," he said.

Speaking after meeting Standard Group Chief Executive Officer Sam Shollei in Nairobi yesterday, Lagat said his Government is committed to uplifting the living standard of Nandi residents.

He said two other ambulances acquired from the United States will be commissioned by March.

Emergency operations

"The ambulances are mini-theatres where emergency operations can be undertaken. We do not want to lose any lives unnecessarily, we are committed to health care," said Lagat.

He said the county government has set aside enough resources to boost vocational training centres to ensure more youths acquire necessary skills that will help them become independent.

"Let's end this stigma that those who go to the vocational training schools are failures in life," said Lagat.

On digital migration, Lagat said the national government should support the media which has helped highlight issues affecting Kenyans, thus offering leaders an opportunity to know what to address.

Lagat thanked The Standard for its continued support.

Mr Shollei pledged to continue working closely not only with Nandi but the other 46 counties in highlighting issues that help improve the lives of Kenyans.

"We will continue to support devolution because we know it will improve the lives of Kenyans," said Shollei, adding that devolution has transformed lives countrywide.
