Di Maria nears Manchester United return

Manchester, England: Louis van Gaal has admitted he is still looking for the "perfect" performance from his Manchester United side.

United have won six games in a row to rise to third in the table, eight points behind leaders Chelsea and five behind second-placed Manchester City.

And the Dutchman revealed he has told former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson that the level of performance is just as important as getting results.

"When I speak with Sir Alex he says 'no problem, you have won', but for me it's also the performance that's important, because when you perform well you shall win more," said Van Gaal.

"I am still looking for a game that is closer to the perfect game than we have given until now.

Angel Di Maria has resumed training after recovering from a hamstring injury, but Van Gaal said he was unsure whether the £59.7million record signing will start at Aston Villa tomorrow.

"Di Maria has trained this week with us, but it is also dependable how he compares with other players," said Van Gaal. "Because he is not match fit.

"I have said the same about Robin van Persie and Falcao, and Di Maria is no different.

Van Gaal added: "Maybe I shall select him [Di Maria] on the bench or maybe not. I have to make my decision but we have one more training session so we shall see."
