Woman loses Sh200,000 in fake OLX deal

Two suspects landed in court for allegedly using OLX to con gullible Nairobians.

Esther Wambui and John Ndichu allegedly fraudulently obtained Sh200,000 from Purity Wairimu in Zimmerman Estate between October 22 and 25.

The court heard that the accused pretended they were in a position to sell Wairimu a container measuring 40 feet.

The court also heard that Ndichu had advertised the container on OLX.

The complainant allegedly got interested and called Ndichu, who reportedly asked her to meet ‘his daughter’ Wambui instead, claiming he was not at home.

Wairimu allegedly paid Wambui Sh160,000 and was to clear the remaining Sh40,000 on the day she was to pick the container.

However on clearing the balance, the accused allegedly switched off their phones.

Wairimu later realised she had been conned after she visited the home of the accused to find that the container belonged to a different person.

The accused had allegedly photographed the container before posting it on the OLX site.

The suspects denied the charges and were released on a cash bail of Sh70,000 each.

The case will be heard on January 9.
