The world's first 'pregnant man' has been charged with stalking his 'ex-wife' through a GPS device attached to her car.

Following a partial sex change, Thomas Beatie, who was born a woman, gave birth in 2008 after artificial insemination the year before.

The 40-year-old has allegedly been tracking his former partner Nancy Beatie using an electronic device and was arrested last Thursday.

A public safety officer is reported to have spotted the GPS while helping Ms Beatie fix a flat tyre on her car in Phoenix, Arizona.

Although Thomas Beatie has been charged with stalking, his ex-wife has not been formally identified as the victim - and has only been named by the suspect's fiancée, Amber Nicholas.

Beatie, who lives in Anthem, Arizona, will shortly appear in court to answer to the charges, according to TMZ.

In a police interview, he admitted installing the device in 2012 when he owned the vehicle, and changed the batteries several times.

It was activated six months after he served Ms Beatie with an order of protection - claiming she attacked him.

Ms Beatie allegedly told police her ex-husband would appear at places she was and ask where she had been.

Thomas Beatie changed gender in 1998. He had his breasts removed but kept his female reproductive organs.

He and then-wife Nancy bought donor sperm on the internet to inseminate him.

In 2008 he gave birth to baby ¬Susan.

He had his next two children in quick succession to limit the length of time he was off his hormone treatment.

Without coming off it, he wouldn’t have been able to conceive.

In spite of everything he and Nancy had been through, their marriage broke down. Thomas lodged divorce papers in March, and was granted sole custody of the children in May 2012.

If convicted of stalking, as a first-time offender it is unlikely Beatie will be sent to jail - he will most probably receive probation instead.
