Eight perish in Nyandarua grisly accident

Nyandarua, Kenya: Eight people have died after a fatal accident involving two vehicles along Njabini-Engineer Road in Nyandarua County.

Four others have been admitted to Kijabe Mission Hospital with injuries they sustained during the Tuesday night accident.

Among the survivors of the accident that involved a Pajero and a double cabin pick up, which collided head on, are a mother and her one and a half year old child.

The driver of the double cabin pick up and his are among four survivors admitted to hospital. The eight, who died on the spot, were travelling in the Pajero.

According to Nyandarua County Commander Hamisi Mabeya, the occupants of the Pajero vehicle were travelling from Muranga after attending a burial ceremony and were heading back to their homes.

"Upon reaching Engineer town, the two vehicles collided head on. We are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident as the road normally has low traffic," he said.

Mabeya said it is only the woman and her child who survived in the Pajero. They sustained minor injuries and were rushed to hospital.

The driver and the occupant of the double cabin pick up, he noted, sustained serious fractures and have since been admitted to hospital.
