Family says Otieno Kajwang’s postmortem 'inconclusive'

The late Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang’ died of heart attack, post-mortem results released Friday show.

Chief Government Pathologist Johannsen Oduor said there was a previous scar on Kajwang’s heart but that did not cause his death. He said the senator had another infection which led to a cardiac arrest.

“We found out that there was a previous scar on one side of Kajwang’s heart but this was not the cause of his death. He died of a myocardial infarction which caused some parts of his heart to die off,” said Dr Oduor.

But Siaya Senator James Orengo, who is also the nominated National Burial Committee Chairman and the deceased’s family lawyer, said the report is not conclusive and further investigations on the cause of the senator’s death will be done.

“The report released by the pathologists is not conclusive. We will conduct more examinations to find out the exact cause of the death then we will release the information in due course,” he said.

Mr Orengo also said Kajwang’ had broken fore ribs, bruises on the right side of his chest, a massive erosion in the stomach and a dislocation of one of the ribs.

“All these injuries need to be dated so that we can find out when they occurred,” he said.

He also said Kajwang’s body fluids, tissues and blood will shipped to the University of Pretoria, South Africa for further examinations.

“With the permission of the family, we are going to ship the blood, body tissues and fluids to the University of Pretoria so that we can get the exact cause of the senator’s death,” said Orengo.

Orengo said Kajwang’ will be buried on November 28.
