Miss Tourism Kwale office gets funds set aside for office functions and flights for winner Stacey Murabu

The office of Miss Tourism Kwale has been instituted and allocated a budget of Sh1 million.

County Tourism Executive Adam Sheikh said the fund will cater for office functions and flights for the entire year as she markets the county’s finest beaches.

Last week, pomp and glamour heralded the crowning of 20-year-old Stacey Nzalambi as Miss Tourism Kwale.

Although the real cost was not disclosed, it is alleged that over Sh30 million was spent going by the level of preparations and the event itself.

Ms Nzalamba, a third-year Public Relations student at United States International University (USIU) emerged tops.

“The event’s splendour is a manifestation of how far the county government is willing to go in promoting tourism,” said Mr Sheik.

ATTRACTIVE BEACHES

He said Miss Nzalamba’s responsibilities will be made flexible to allow her also attend college studies.

“We want her to market and attract tourists to our beautiful beaches. We also have other attractive locations that have not been discovered,” he added.

An elated Nzalambi, who also won cash prize of Sh100,000 said the award has given her a push in life, and opportunity to showcase her talents.

In last year’s competition, the winner won a paltry Sh40, 000 with the entire preparation costing Sh1 million.

COMMUNITY WORK

She said this will not be the first time she is engaging with the society, since she has been offering free community work at her rural home in Lungalunga.

“While in campus, I have been visiting children homes and also giving motivation talks in schools,” says Nzalamba.

She started nurturing her skills at St Catherine Girls High School in Nairobi after attending Ruaraka Primary in the same county.

She observes that the school, which teaches sisterhood nurtured her values, and that is where she also started her modelling career while in form three.

She emerged second runners up in her first try in Nairobi.
