Man killed by militants in Mombasa

A man was last night hacked to death by youths alleged to be linked to Al Shabaab terror group.

According to witnesses, about 12 youths carrying an Al Shabaab flag attacked the man identified as Johnstone Muteti at 7:30pm at Bakarani area in Kisauni, Mombasa.

They slashed him on the head and hands. He died on the spot.

There was tension for the better part of yesterday in Mombasa following an early morning raid on two mosques in which a student was killed.

The police operation sparked protests in the coastal town after the student was killed at Musa Mosque following the 4.30am raid.

However, it could not be established whether the killing of the pastor was a retaliation scheme by youths aggrieved by yesterday’s security operation.

Musa Mosque shot into the limelight when police stormed it on February 2 this year to flush out dozens of people attending a conference which authorities said was Jihadist convention.
