How to fix that receding hairline caused by styling

Living

edges naomiBy Anne Mungai (@annemungai_)

Thinning edges and lack of hair around the hairline is a problem most ladies can attest to.

The main culprit in this may be too much tension brought about by braiding or weaving as well as pulling hair back too tight while making a ponytail or bun.

A healthy hairline is however achievable using these 4 easy tips.

Avoid tension: When doing hair, most of the stylists pull too tightly to achieve a neat look that will last longer. Tiny pimples may appear around the hairline as a result. It is therefore advisable to caution the stylist against pulling your hair too tight. Though beautiful, ponytails and buns can also cause thin edges, avoid tight pulling of the hair when wearing these looks.

Free: Different hairstyles may look beautiful but letting your hair free for a while is even better. Choose hairstyles that will not strain the edges. Combing or wearing a loose ponytail is a good idea.

Oils: There are oils that can help soften the hairline and can revive hair growth around the edges. According to http://naturalhairfanatic.wordpress.com, rosemary oil promotes hair growth and increases blood flow. Other oils include coconut oil and castor oil. Massaging with the oils is highly effective as it helps increase blood flow to the area.

Gels: Using gels to bring out the edges can lead to dry edges and product build up. Brushing these edges can break down your hair. It is therefore important to mix the gel with a little hair oil or moisturizer. Better yet, avoid the gel altogether.
