FKF, KPL should work in unison

The supremacy wars between Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and Kenya Premier League (KPL) are hurting the already ailing Kenyan football.

The tug of war is adversely affecting how football is run and could drain all the gains made over the last five years. In the last two weeks, the two bodies have been at loggerheads trying to outdo each other.

However, this is uncalled for as both institutions have different duties towards the development of the beautiful game in Kenya. FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya, and his team should stop going against decisions made by KPL in regard to the domestic league because it is the rightful body authorised to run the league.

In the case of the disputed Tusker versus Muhoroni match, KPL was right to award the former a victory as they were already leading before the match was abandoned. However, Muhoroni Youth refused to play and not even centre referee Andrew Juma, would convince them to. They remained adamant and walked out of the pitch, forcing Juma to call off the match. For FKF to award the match to Muhoroni is to make KPL look like they have no right to make any decisions concerning the league without their interference.

FKF also came out to challenge KPL’s decision that declared Awendo Green Stadium fit to host league matches. Awendo is the home ground of Sony Sugar, who refused to honour their tie against AFC Leopards at Afraha Stadium Nakuru. A decision to replay the match on November 5, has already been made. In the interest of growing the sport, FKF and KPL should always find amicable ways of solving disputes instead of throwing kicks at each other.
