Thousands of Gor Mahia fans have vowed to travel to Kisumu for Saturday's Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match against Muhoroni Youth at Moi Stadium despite a ban slapped on the club from having supporters in their remaining matches.

But the fans led by Jared Otieno who is popularly referred to as 'Jaro Soja' have insisted they will maintain peace outside the stadium.

"The club has appealed against the ban but incase we don't succeed, there are still plans to travel to Kisumu and support our team even from outside the stadium. So far, members from seven branches have confirmed their intentions to travel to Kisumu," he revealed.

He added:"We are asking everyone who wants to travel to keep peace. We must carry ourselves in a disciplined manner to avoid any more damage on the image of the club."

Elsewhere, the police have threatened to hold club officials responsible for hooliganism during football matches.

Speaking on a local television station on Tuesday night, police spokesperson Masoud Mwinyi said: "Hooliganism is fast getting out of control and we are considering holding club officials personally responsible for such behavior. It looks like such behavior is encouraged by poor management."

If the police make good their threat, club chairmen and other top officials will be arrested when their fans cause trouble during or after matches.

Mwinyi was commenting on the recent violence that erupted during a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match between Gor Mahia and Sofapaka at Machakos Stadium.
Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed during the incident which forced Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua to ban Gor Mahia from playing at the venue and also fined the club Sh10million.
Mwinyi also revealed that investigations into the incident are on-going and those responsible will be brought to book.
He further revealed that if the situation gets worse, Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo will use his right to stop any football match he deems can turn into violence.
"The Inspector General has a right to stop any sporting event but we do not want it to get to this level and so we are urging the fans to control themselves."
Speaking on the same show, Gor Mahia Secretary General Chris Omondi claimed that the violence witnessed in Machakos was stage managed by people hired by their opponents.
Omondi who did not provide any evidence also said they will appeal against the decision to ban their fans from watching matches and a Sh500,000 fine they are supposed to pay for the violence.
He claimed the club had received 'credible' information prior to the match that hired people would try and disrupt it and blame them for the incident.
"According to our investigations, the whole thing was stage managed. We had prior information that people would be hired to cause trouble and then blame our club. We even informed Sofapaka about our fears," he said.
Omondi further said it is unfair to blame his club for the violence as they were not the home team.
"The responsibility of providing security during matches is the sole responsibility of the home team and in this regard Sofapaka failed terribly," said the official.
He argued that Football Kenya Federation (FKF) should have carried out thorough investigations before slapping on them what he termed as punitive measures which he said will do more harm than good.
The two match ban slapped on Gor Mahia takes effect from this weekend when fans will be kept out of the fixture against Muhoroni Youth.
Gor Mahia remain in contention to lift the KPL trophy. If this happens, they will be presented the trophy in the absence of their passionate fans.
