Kevin Amwayi scored in the 83rd minute to give Ulinzi Stars their fifth win on the trot after stopping Thika United 1-0 in Thika.

Amwayi broke loose to beat Hamza Muwonge in the Thika United with calmly slot goal.

His goal came after the soldiers had failed to score a 44th minute penalty when James Saruni saw his casual shot easily stopped by Muwonge.

The soldiers were enjoying an impressive away record and were the first to get a shot at goal, but John Mukwata’s early effort went wide.

The home side also failed to go ahead in the 12th minute when Michael Olunga set up David King’atua with a long cross, but the latter headed it wide.

Ulinzi Stars were physical and constantly fouled their opponents, a move which earned John Makwata the first caution from referee Moses Osano.

With one minute to the break, James Macharia appeared to have brought down Makwata in the box to win a penalty, but goalkeeper James Saruni’s poorly-taken shot was saved by Muwonge.

Ten minutes inside the second half, Allan Owiyo was denied by Saruni. In the 64th minute, Michael Luvusi wasted another opportunity to put the home side ahead after he blasted wide.

Ulinzi goalkeeper Saruni sent the ball onto the path of Luvusi who blasted wide. Amwayi broke the hearts of Thika fans with the 83rd minute goal.

He made a long run and calmly put the ball beyond Muwonge.

Elsewhere, Nairobi City Stars went down 2-1 to Muhoroni Youth on Friday night.

Goals from Abbas Akiyemi and Ezekiel Otuoma were enough to give the visitors all three points away.

City Stars, who remain in the relegation zone, got consolation goal from Dennis Okoth but it was not enough to give them three points.

Muhoroni should have gone up in the second minute when Godfrey Osama sent a long throw-in which Abbas Akiyemi headed to Enosh Otieno, but the man who has so far scored five goals for Muhoroni failed to tap it home.
