Aucho, Were strike to ease Tusker past Ushuru: Brewers humble Tax men as FKF overturns KPL’s decision to award Tusker an abandoned match

There was no respite for Ushuru after they went down 2-0 to Tusker in this Kenyan Premer League (KPL) match at Kasarani yesterday night.

Goals by Jesse Were and Khalid Aucho were enough to hand a ten man Ushuru side their eighth straight loss.

The tax men were forced to play the last 30 minutes with ten men after Davies Ikocheli was sent off for a second bookable offence.

The win also helped Tusker register a double on their opponents as they had won the first leg 3-1 in Meru.

Brewers were more hungrier for goals and Harambee Stars defender Aboud Omar personified that urgency with great runs on the left flank.

Omar was denied by side netting in the 10th minute after he over-lapped well only for his final shot to come off poor.

Philip Odhiambo came out quickly to deny Were in 12th minute as the brewers continued to push for the opener.

Ushuru had a little respite in the 20th and 22nd minutes with attempts of their own. First Liberian forward Roosevelt Blatty shot meekly at Samuel Odhiambo in the Tusker goal.

Ushuru paid dearly for insisting on pushing their men forward. Martin Kiiza made a long dipping cross which Ushuru goalkeeper Philip Odhiambo misjudged as he went out to clear the danger and a waiting Jesse Were had the easiest of tasks to score in the 48th minute.

Then in the 71st minute, Were set up Aucho who shot in the first instance and the ball crawled inside the Ushuru net.

Meanwhile, FKF has overturned KPL’s decision to award Tusker their abandoned match against Muhoroni Youth.

KPL had awarded the Brewers a 2-0 victory over the visitors after the match was called-off in the 77th minute last Sunday at the Kasarani due to substitution confusion that saw Muhoroni players walk off the pitch in protest. By the time of the stoppage, Tusker were leading 2-1.

In a letter signed by FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya and addressed to KPL CEO Jack Oguda, the federation referred the issue to relevant judicial bodies for a final ruling.
“We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated October 23 and the decision to award the match to Tusker. The matter in question and the dispute is important and touches on the integrity of the game and should be referred to the relevant body of the first instance for a decision,” read the letter.

“It is our position that the KPL secretariat lacks jurisdiction on the matter and should defer decision to award the match to Tusker FC and refer the matter to judicial bodies.”

This is not the first time the two football bodies have been involved in a battle for supremacy with the recent one being the aborted Sony Sugar-AFC Leopards second leg league match.
