Female football referees are fit as a fiddle

Counties

female referee

Somebody with curious intentions wants to subject our Kenya Premier League (KPL) female referees to what is known as a physical endurance test (PET).

Now, this Pet is not a joke. From the words that form the acronym, Pet looks like an exercise that involves ascending and descending Mt Kenya five times.

And that is where the problem lies. Think about it, can our female referees do such an exercise and pass? If all those who are quoting Fifa statutes and accusing KPL of fielding unfit female referees want is to see the officials endure pain, then they should think of something more considerate.

For the Love of the Game has seen several female referees officiate at KPL matches, including in tough ones like those between AFC and Gor, and I can give them a clean bill of health.

These referees are as fit as a fiddle. First, they are able to keep in pace with the ball and players. Second, they have never failed to blow the whistle as rules dictate and third, they have very lean bodies.

If we can allow our girls to join university with low grades, then make them troop to Parliament by creating special seats, why not lower the standards in football. Start those fitness tests and you will remain with ugly men on the pitch.
