When husbands drive wives up the wall and turn them murderous

Counties

Which is worse – death or divorce? This question has been spinning around in my mind because of all the questionable ways marriages are ending these days.

Forget the aftermath of the wedding where we only see the video or photos.

Those who have participated in the planning of a wedding or have been the main participants know very well the number of times you ask yourself “Do I really want this? Do I love this man/woman? Is all this drama worth it?”

During the planning phase, you see through all the various facades of your spouse and in-laws and know what you are getting into.

It is like a wedding cake; no one sees the burnt, sunken or cracked parts as everything is iced over and decorated. With humans, you either accept or walk away, but some do not just walk away, they blast the bridge of reconciliation into a million pieces.

Take the case of Samalie Nasasira and Roland Bazire for instance. They met while she was in campus and had a child, prompting a ‘come-we-try’ relationship.

Roland has a good job and was a good provider, and before they got their second baby, they had a traditional wedding. However, Roland’s gaze began to wander and Samalie was not amused.

 Verbal fights

Verbal fights could be heard daily and as Samalie was not one to sit and wait for things to happen, she soon got herself a job and things appeared to have cooled down in the home.

A few months down the road, neighbours said Samalie packed a few bags and left with the maid and children.

Roland got home in the wee hours as usual, only to meet a trashed house.  There was a trail of omo mixed with sugar leading in from the door, chilli and water all over the carpet, sofas, bedding and other personal effects.

He spent the rest of the night trying to clean up the mess to avoid the embarrassment of explaining the disorganisation in his house to neighbours the following day.

And in yet another scandalous case, a woman allegedly killed her husband early last year by ramming into him as he opened the gate for her. Jacqueline Uwera Nsenga crashed through her husband Juvenale Nsenga as he welcomed her home.

The couple, we are told, met when the woman was only 17 years old. They courted for almost 2 years before getting married. Young love is beautiful and they had two children before the 10-year-itch got to the husband and he began to stray.

When she complained to the elders, they told her as long as he was a good provider she should let him be. The church told her God hates divorce and she should pray for him.

She kept herself busy with her small business and attending prayer meetings until one fine day when she snapped.

One evening, Nsenga got home earlier than Uwera who had gone for a late prayer meeting. Apparently the shamba boy who normally opens the gate was away for a burial upcountry and the guard was off his post.

When Uwera came home, they probably had an altercation about the hours she was keeping. He is dead and she is awaiting sentencing in Luzira prison. Why didn’t she just walk away? One may wonder.
