Dirty locals stripped of dignity, forcefully washed in public

Counties

public washing

Business at Kona Mbaya trading centre in Likuyani sub-County was disrupted for hours when one woman and 6 men were undressed and bathed in public.

Residents claimed that the seven have not observed personal hygiene for close to three months and had been warned but they took the matter lightly.

Titus Mulama, the chairman of the ‘Operation Keep Kona Mbaya Clean’ group, in collaboration with other members and residents mounted a hunt and nabbed Joseph Kadenge, Kamau Njoroge, Andrew Onyango, Shadrack Shadoof, Dominic Indumuli, Sammy Machafu and Mishla Sarah before undressing and washing them in broad daylight.

 Dirtiest in the country

“People say Kona Mbaya trading centre harbours the dirtiest people in all of Likuyani sub-County. We came up with a movement, ‘Operation Keep Kona Mbaya clean’ and nabbed seven people among them a woman.

“We paraded and washed them in public to serve as a lesson to would be dirty people,” said a Mr Mulama, a resident, as he laughed out loud.

“These people are enemies of water, they have failed to have a shower for several months and as lesson we decided we should bathe them in broad daylight.

Parents should act role models to their children, such cases show our society in a dirty light,” added Mulama.

 Smelling like pigs

Mulama noted some people were smelling like pigs and others had the smell of sewage.

The eccentric locals who watched the public bathing later contributed money and bought the culprits clothes and shoes. Some were lucky to be oiled with petroleum jelly bought at the market.

Joseph Kadenge a beneficiary of the bathing exercise takes care of pigs at a local farmer’s farm and residents had been complaining that he generated a strange smell whenever he moved. But he disputes their accusations.

“This is a disappointment and harassment, how can I be bathed in public yet I shower daily? This is a case of mistaken identity! They have victimised me just because I deal with pigs. Some people should be ashamed of themselves?

“They are idiots! I need an apology for being mistaken. Pigs have a smell that can make people run away, when I am through with my work I always shower immediately,” hissed Kadenge, adding that he had been short changed because unlike his partners in crime, who had been given new clothes and shoes, he had only been given a pair of slippers!

 Personal hygiene

The other culprits were happy, confessing that indeed it had been ages since they bathed, after the exercise and promised to observe their personal hygiene.

“I am happy as this incident is an eye opener. I feel fresh and I can courageously walk on the street and confront a person without hesitating and I am told it has health benefits,” said Kamau Njoroge shyly.

Medical experts reveal that bathing helps in cleansing the skin by stimulating tissue and muscles, fosters blood circulation, induces sleep and prevents diseases more so for diabetics - when they take a warm shower it brings down their blood sugar levels.

They add that bathing is comforting as it provides relaxation and keeps our minds fresh. For you who hates or fears water, be advised; ‘Operation Watu Waoge’ could be coming to a town near you.
