The man behind KTN Anchors’ beautifully made up faces.

Many people will call bluff on makeup, but ogle in awe, whenever a well made up lady walks past them. Collins Muririra a makeup artiste at KTN mentions.

Well, most often it’s not only because of the makeup but also the boosts of confidence it bestows on the wearers.

Like top model and television host Tyra Banks said, “I love the confidence that makeup gives me.”

But what happens when one cannot go through all the make-up application steps, and achieve that beautifully flawless skin on their own? That is when professional makeup artistes are called in.

In major television stations, anchors are expected dress up and look beautifully dashing.

Collins Muriria who has been working alongside top KTN Anchors and models as a professional makeup artiste, was kind enough to let us into his world.

SDE: How did you end up in the makeup business and for how long have you been a makeup artiste?

After I quit media school, I took up photography and skin care/ make up/ hair coloring classes. That is how I developed interest in makeup.

I have been in the business for two years now, my first year was a learning period then I went professional on my second.

SDE: Who mentored you into the job?

My mentor was Suzie Beauty. I first saw her on being interviewed on a local program when I cleared high school and I knew then I wanted to be like her when I 'grew' up.

SDE: The best faces/people you have made up include?

Those would be Sophia Wanuna, Miss South Sudan Kenya Akuany Ayuen, Kalekye Mumo, Amileena, Huddah.

SDE:  Your most challenging bit about the job would be?

Convincing people that what you did is what should be done. For instance, I won't give you a pink lipstick if you have full lips and I won't make you lighter no matter how you insist.

SDE: What make up advice would you give to ladies out there?

For a start, you should own: Liquid foundation, tinted gloss, good mascara and black eyeliner in your make up palette. And importantly, get at least a cleanser, ditch the sponge get a brush and buy liquid foundation instead of the crème-to-powder thing product which is just wrong!!!

SDE: Any last words?

A makeup artist is a hired service like an electrician, mechanic or even architect so pay up!

Why do people call me expecting to just "buy lunch"? Lunch won't pay my college fees!

Over and above all I love doing make up for dark skinned people and those interested can reach me on [email protected]
