Body found with ‘snakes’ in stomach

Snakes found in man

Residents of Bondeni village, Lugari Constituency, are reeling in shock after a post mortem conducted on a 30-year-old man is alleged to have extracted three live snakes from his stomach.

The deceased, Gerishom Indiya, is said to have been unwell for a long time and attempts to seek medical help proved futile as he was never diagnosed of any ailment.

“My son had been complaining of severe headaches and stomach problems. He was admitted to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and Mlimani Health Centre but doctors said there is nothing wrong with him,” said Sara Ong’ai, the deceased’s mother.

Sara said despite her son developing a huge appetite for food, his health has been deteriorating for more than a year with constant nose bleeding.

“Indiya developed an extra ordinary appetite, eating every now and then.  When he found no food he ate soil and would dig into the floor at night to feed on mud. We were shocked at his post mortem when doctors extracted three live snakes from his stomach.

They were one and half foot long. They were blue in colour but had red heads. This was so frightening, my friends and I had to leave the mortuary immediately because such things only happen in movies and we did not know they are real,” said Ong’ai.

Peter Okaka, a Church of God leader, who was present during the operation, was astounded, saying it was inexplicable.

“This is ungodly, I caution all who indulge in witchcraft to drop their trade because their days are numbered. They will be judged harshly,” Mr Okaka declared.

Witchcraft

Medics are however, apprehensive over this. Dr Fredrick Oluga, a specialist from Kakamega County, explains snakes cannot be found in human beings and those are just allegations.

“We have different types of worms like thread worms, tape worms and hook worms. Parasitic worms are usually as big as 12 feet long and people can confuse them to be snakes. Live snakes cannot be in a human body unless that is witch craft,” Dr Oluga said.

Meanwhile, residents of Malava are now seeking the services of a witchdoctor after a man suspected of being a thief strangely started feeding on grass.

“This is the way to go because police have constantly failed us but with this man, the thieves are punished and caught instantly. This is the answer we have been seeking,” said Vincent Inyangala a resident.

Zero-grazing

The man, Elijah Wekesa, is said to have stolen a cow and the owner sought the services of a witchdoctor who used his powers to force the man to start grazing alongside the stolen cow.

Confirming the incident Malava OCPD Justus Kitetu said the suspect was arrested at Kambi ya Mwanza on Tuesday by Administration Police officers with a cow suspected to have been stolen.

Lost cow

“Police interrogated him but he did not answer any questions but instead started eating grass. When given food he declines and he is not responding to questions,” Kitetu noted.

“Residents should be alert on the new methods that criminals are now using. This man is just pretending to be feeding on grass so that he may be released without being charged,” Kitetu said.

Margaret Khasoa, the owner of the cow reported the matter to Matete and Webuye police stations last Monday when her cow was stolen.

“My cow got lost early last week and when I heard of this incident in Malava I rushed there only to find my cow and this man feasting on the grass in the station,” Khasoa said.

She however, declined to accept or deny whether she had sought the services of the now famous witchdoctor as claimed by residents.
