Prisons stake claim as as rivals Pipeline and GSU stumble at Baringo County Governor's volleyball cup

Prisons teams dominated the inaugural Baringo County Governor’s volleyball cup tournament, which was played in Eldama Ravine over the weekend.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women league champions Prisons  and their male colleagues, showed their class as they beat their opponents in the tournament, which run alongside the seventh edition of the national league.

Prisons dismissed arch-rivals Kenya Pipeline 3-1 sets of (25-22, 9-25, 25-21, 25-17) in the finals at Eldama Ravine.

On their way to the finals, Prisons defeated Nairobi Water in 3-0 straight sets (25-12, 25-13, 25-19) while Kenya Pipeline registered the same results 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-17) against Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to book the final slots.

In the men’s category, Prisons dismissed KDF 3-1 sets of 21-25, 28-26, 25-19 and 25-20 to lift the title.

Their path to the finals saw Prisons edged out local champions General Service Unit (GSU) 3-1 sets of 18-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 while KDF defeated Kenya Airways in straight sets 3-0 (25-22,25-18,25-23) in the semi-finals.

At the same time, Prisons women’s team edged out Nairobi Water in straight sets 3-0 (28-26, 25-12, 27-25) in their league match.

The champions went ahead to register their second win of the fixture, another 3-0 straight set victory of 25-6, 25-8, 25-16 crushing Talent Academy.

The Kenya women’s league champion, were on a roll as they stun Mount Kenya University Thika Campus in another 3-0 straight sets (25-11,25-12,25-9).

KCB failed to tame Kenya Pipeline when they succumbed to a 3-0 sets (20-25, 18-25, 20-25) in their league encounter.

Nairobi Water put the disappointments of losing their opener to champions Prisons aside, reorganized their reception and managed to earn a 3-1 set victory over Oserian (26-24,25-23,17-25,25-18).

With the weekend results, Prisons without their three key players who left for professional stint in Europe, managed to climb up from their fifth spot to the second place in the league standings. they have amassed 18 points from six matches, same as league leaders Kenya Pipeline, who have a superior point ratio of 1.96.

Nairobi Water is third in the log on 15 points after five matches while Kenya Commercial Bank and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) are joint on 12 points from four matches each. However, KDF have a superior point ratio of 1.37.

Kenya Prisons maintained their stay at the top with 32 points from 11 matches while GSU is comfortably sitting in the second place with 30 points from ten fixtures this season.

KDF has managed 27 points from nine matches while Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is on 23 points off eight matches and in the fourth place. Co-Operative Bank also made the top five position with 22 points from seven matches.
