Aden Duale was right in his remarks and i support him, says Thika MP

Kenya: A jubilee allied MP has supported the recent remarks by the leader of majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale that were directed at Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto and his fellow governors.

Thika town MP Alice Ng'ang'a has said Duale was right in his remarks which he made recently in Narok since it was nothing but the truth.

Ng'ang'a said the majority leader spoke the truth that many leaders are afraid to talk about in order not to anger governors many of who are their friends.

"I totally support Duale. The money that the governors are given is neither theirs nor that of their relatives. It belongs to Kenyans and they have to be accountable to them," said Ng'ang'a.

She scoffed at the council of Governors chairman and his Kiambu counterpart William Kabogo for threatening to take legal action against the Garrissa Township lawmaker over his remarks saying those were kicks of a dying horse.

The MP told the governors to prove Duale wrong by availing themselves before the senate Finance committee to answer in to queries of financial misappropriations on their respective counties that was raised by the Auditor General in his report.

"If as a governor or any other leader you have been given public funds by the government, you have to be accountable. If you are called by the senate to explain some queries, you should go running," she said.

The lawmaker who spoke over the weekend at Broadway High School in Thika town during the school's prize giving ceremony said governors must be ready to be held accountable adding when it comes to auditing of public funds; they must be ready to answer any queries arising.

The MP claimed there is a lot of corruption and misappropriation of funds that is going on in the counties which she said has to be put in check by institutions like the senate through oversight.

She also called on the Ethic and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to move with speed and probe what she described as rampant corruption in the devolved units.

The legislator called on the governors to abandon their referendum push dubbed Pesa Mashinani saying it was not necessary since parliament was capable of raising cash allocation to the county governments by amending the constitution.

The MP told governors to first show what they had done with the money they had received from the national government before asking for more funds.

There has been uproar from governors and a section of MPs following the remarks made by Duale last week in Narok with some of them telling him to apologize or face legal action.
