The Kenya Volleyball Federation's (KVF) Nairobi County Chairman's inaugural Cup competition ended on Sunday with top-flight clubs Kenya Prisons and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) winning the men and women's titles respectively.

The two-day tournament played at the University of Nairobi Grounds saw Prisons edge General Service Unit (GSU) 3-2 (25-20, 25-17, 28-26) in a hotly contested final to claim the title. This tie marked a repeat of last year's KVF play-offs final, a contest that was won by the military side.

"I am excited by this win against a seasoned opponent, this result gives us hope and belief to put up a good fight with the hope of reclaiming the league title this season," Prisons coach Gideon Chenje said.

In the women's category, KCB 'A' defeated KCB 'B' 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 28-26) en route to bagging the overall title.

At the same time, Nairobi County Council (NCC) women's team, St Paul's University and Kimbo Secondary School bagged the self supporting, Colleges and Schools category respectively.

The winning teams in all the categories were awarded trophies alongside Sh 20,000 with the runners up taking home Sh 10,000.

"Our plan is to organise more of these competitions, so as to give out youth a platform to expose their talents," KVF's Nairobi Branch chairman Joseph Nderitu said.

Meanwhile, volleyball action resumes this weekend, with the seventh leg of the KVF league fixtures set to be contested in Eldama
Ravine.
