Fever as Football Federation of Kenya announces election date

NAIROBI, KENYA: The election fever is back at Football Federation (FKF) after it announced polls to be held on September 26 to fill up three sensitive posts.

The posts fell vacant following the suspension of Sam Shollei (vice-chairman), Hussein Terry (Nec member-Coast) and Dan Shikanda (Nairobi branch chairman).

After the suspension of Sholei, Robert Asembo was elevated to be vice-chairman and it is expected he will fight to retain the position. It is believed that Rift Valley executive member Doris Petra is also interested in the position.

The decision to hold polls was agreed at during a consultative meeting held in Nairobi on Wednesday during which the delegates also threw their weight behind the current office.

In a resolution read by FKF Western branch chairman Andrew Amukowa, the delegates said they will not allow election losers to derail their plans for developing football in the country.

“We have confidence in the current office led by Sam Nyamweya and ask those who lost in the last elections to give him time to finish his mandate.

“They should understand that the development of football is not just confined to Harambee Stars but rather other aspects as well. It is therefore unfair to judge us by the results of just one match-the loss against Lesotho,

“The FKF has been active in carrying out various courses and seminars and other development aspects which must be appreciated,” he said.
