A civil rights activist has claimed that he will find a gun to protect himself against an MP who is allegedly after his life.

Ken Wafula told journalists in Eldoret that the police have not taken threats to his life seriously.

Wafula claimed he was roughed up at a popular club in Eldoret by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and his aides. He claimed he intends to acquire a gun, legally or illegally, because the police have not arrested or charged Sudi.

“It is very easy to acquire a gun illegally than through the procedural means and with the continued threats and this injury I have sustained after the beat down, I have decided that I must also defend myself,“ the CEO of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy claimed.

At a press conference, Wafula showed journalists his bandaged right fingers which he claimed was an injury sustained after an alleged scuffle with the MP‘s aides at the club.

“I received the injury from the bottle I had in my hand after a confrontation with Sudi‘s aides. Such injuries have caused pain to my life especially after numerous allegations levelled against me,“ he claimed.

However, Sudi‘s personal assistant Amon Letting denied there was an altercation at the bar.

Letting confirmed the MP and his aides were at the bar but denied there was a fight. He said Wafula sustained the injury after he fell while being disorderly. He said ever since his name was linked to coaching of witnesses at the International Criminal Court, he has faced several death threats.

“I have never had peace after 2008 and such nightmares and confrontations are as a result of my alleged participation. I will clear my name at ICC in order to bring such threats to an end,“ he said.

He claimed he has recorded more than three statements with the Eldoret police over the threats under OB/11/08/14, OB/13/28/9/2013 and OB/97/25/09/2013. But police in Eldoret downplayed the case.
